EX-TROPICAL CYCLONE BRINGS HEAVY FALLS AND WINDY WEATHER TO THE
KIMBERLEY AND NORTH INTERIOR.
Weather Situation:
At 4 pm Ex-Tropical Cyclone Tiffany was located over the northern
Kimberley and was moving towards the southwest. Ex-Tropical Cyclone
Tiffany will remain a deep tropical low as it slowly tracks south
tonight over inland Kimberley and enters the North Interior
District later on Saturday.
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is expected across
the northern and inland areas of the Kimberley as the tropical low
starts to track south.
Heavy rain is likely to spread to the southern Kimberley tonight
and to the adjacent North Interior during Saturday.
DAMAGING WIND GUSTS up to 100 km/h are expected in severe
thunderstorms across the Kimberley and adjacent North
Interior.
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS are also possible across the remaining
Kimberley and North Interior further away from the tropical low and
separate Severe Thunderstorm Warnings will be issued as
required.
A Flood Watch for the Kimberley and eastern Desert regions is also
current. Refer to http://www.bom.gov.au/wa/warnings/ for all
current warnings.
Locations which may be affected include Halls Creek, Kununurra,
Wyndham, Kuri Bay, Lake Argyle, Mitchell Plateau, Mount Barnett,
Troughton Island and Warmun.
People in the north of WA may experience this type of weather each
year at this time but winds and rain may cause damage to property
and make road conditions hazardous.
Ellenbrae in the northeast Kimberley has reported 155.5 mm of
rainfall in the 24 hours till 9 am today.
Lombadina Airstrip has reporting 82 mm of rainfall since 9 am
today.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm
water drains and streams.
* Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from
windows.
* Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones
if there is lightning.
* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
* Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power
lines and loose debris.
* Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and
waterways.
* Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris.
* Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should
always be treated as live.
* Assess your home, car and property for damage.
* If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance
company to organise permanent repairs.
* If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly
damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.
