Initial Flood Watch for Gippsland, parts of North East and central
Victoria, and the Otway Coast

Flooding is expected across Gippsland, parts of North East and
central Victoria, and the Otway Coast from Friday afternoon.
An inland low will move across Victoria from late Thursday
bringing heavy rainfall to the flood watch area. Further rainfall
is expected Sunday, as a vigorous cold front crosses the
state.
Catchments in the flood watch area are relatively wet.
Rainfall totals of 40-60 mm are forecast across the North East and
Gippsland from Thursday into Friday, with higher totals of 60-80 mm
possible across the Gippsland high country. Elsewhere, rainfall
totals of 25-45 mm are forecast for the Otway Coast, and 15-30 mm
are forecast for central parts of the state.
Minor to moderate flooding is expected across Gippsland catchments
from Friday afternoon.
Minor flooding is possible across the rest of the flood watch area
from Friday afternoon.

Bemm, Cann and Genoa Rivers
Snowy River
Tambo River
Mitchell River
Avon River
Macalister River
Thomson River
Latrobe River
Traralgon Creek
South Gippsland Rivers
Bunyip River and Dandenong Creek
Yarra River to Coldstream
Yarra River downstream of Coldstream
Werribee River
Otway Coast
Upper Murray and Mitta Mitta Rivers
Kiewa River
Ovens and King Rivers
Seven and Castle Creeks
The Bureau of Meteorology is continuing to monitor the situation
and will issue catchment specific warnings as required.

SES advises that all community members should:
Never walk, ride or drive through floodwater, Never allow children
to play in floodwater, Stay away from waterways and stormwater
drains during and after heavy rain, Keep well clear of fallen power
lines Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into
waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks,
and heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and
debris across roads.
