The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 2:00 pm, severe
thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Gympie, the
area southeast of Gympie and Cooroy. These thunderstorms are moving
towards the east to southeast. They are forecast to affect the area
southwest of Noosa Heads, the area northwest of Noosa Heads and the
area east of Gympie by 2:30 pm and Maroochydore, the area north of
Noosa Heads and the area northeast of Gympie by 3:00 pm.
Heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and damaging winds
are likely.
Dagun Pocket Alert recorded 50 mm of rainfall in the 30 minutes to
1:45 pm
Magnolia Alert recorded 86 mm of rainfall in the 2 hours to 1:30
pm
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded,
forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
