For people in parts of Logan, Scenic Rim and Gold Coast Council
Areas.
Issued at 3:28 pm Monday, 28 February 2022.
Slow moving showers and thunderstorms a potential heavy rain
threat to Gold Coast Hinterland.
Weather Situation: A moist tropical derived airmass is situated
over Southeast Queensland associated with a low pressure trough to
its south in New South Wales. This trough is helping to continue to
feed in this moisture making any slow moving shower or thunderstorm
in the area a heavy rain threat.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:20 pm, severe
thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Numinbah
Valley and Mount Tamborine. These thunderstorms are moving towards
the south to southeast. They are forecast to affect Springbrook by
3:50 pm.
Heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding is likely.
Heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris
across roads.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded,
forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
