Slow-moving thunderstorms may bring intense rainfall rates over
periods of 1-2 hours.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 8:55 am, very dangerous
thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Gatton, the
area southeast of Gympie and the area south of Gympie. These
thunderstorms are slow moving. Very dangerous thunderstorms are
forecast to affect Toowoomba, Pomona and Kenilworth by 9:25 am and
the area east of Gympie, Borumba Dam and Kin Kin by 9:55 am.
Intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening
flash flooding is likely.
Cooran recorded 133mm in 2 hours to 6:15am.
Pomona (Hill St) recorded 106mm in the 1 hour to 7:30am.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded,
forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
