For people in Southeast Coast and parts of Wide Bay and Burnett
and Darling Downs and Granite Belt Forecast Districts.
Issued at 10:58 am Sunday, 27 February 2022.
HEAVY RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH LOCALLY INTENSE FALLS OVER SE
QLD TODAY.
Weather Situation: A low pressure system lies east of the Sunshine
Coast, embedded within a surface trough. This low is expected to
track southward along the Southeast Queensland coast and into
northeastern New South Wales today producing further heavy to
locally intense rainfall with embedded thunderstorms. As this low
tracks southwards heavy rainfall is expected to contract towards
the NSW border during today and overnight into Monday
morning.
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to flash flooding is forecast to
continue over parts of southeast Queensland today and continue
overnight mainly for areas near the NSW border into Monday morning.
Six-hourly rainfall totals between 60 and 120 mm are likely to
continue, reaching up to 150 mm over areas southeast of Caloundra
to Warwick and contracting south to the NSW border later
today.
Locally INTENSE RAINFALL leading to dangerous and LIFE-THREATENING
FLASH FLOODING is possible with thunderstorms during this period,
particularly over coastal areas south of Caloundra and the Gold
Coast hinterland today. Six-hourly rainfall totals in excess of 200
mm are possible. A separate Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be
issued if very dangerous thunderstorms with intense rainfall are
detected.
Heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris
across roads.
DAMAGING WIND GUSTS in excess of 90 km/h are possible over coastal
fringes mainly south of Caloundra and about the elevated terrain of
the Gold Coast hinterland.
A Flood Watch and multiple Flood Warnings are current for parts of
Southeast Queensland. For more details, please visit
