Damaging winds over parts of the Central Coast and
Whitsundays
Weather Situation: A tropical low is located over the Coral Sea
near the Townsville coast
Damaging southeasterly winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h, with peak
gusts of around 90km/h are expected to develop this afternoon
before tending more southerly and easing below warning threshold
overnight.
Locations which may be affected include Hamilton Island.
Winds over Hamilton Island have been averaging 65km/h with gusts
to 90 km/h in the last hour
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
