For people in Wide Bay and Burnett and parts of Capricornia and
Darling Downs and Granite Belt Forecast Districts.
Issued at 1:53 pm Thursday, 3 March 2022.
Severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds and heavy
rainfall developing over the Darling Downs and Wide Bay and
Burnett.
Weather Situation: A moist and unstable airmass is in place over
the eastern Darling Downs, with even stronger instability
developing over the northern Wide Bay and Burnett and southern
Capricornia districts to the north of a surface trough around the
Hervey Bay area. This instability combined with strong wind flow in
the upper atmosphere will support scattered severe thunderstorms
through this afternoon.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large
hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in
the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may
be affected include Warwick, Dalby, Bundaberg, Kingaroy, Hervey Bay
and Stanthorpe.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded,
forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
