Severe thunderstorms are approaching Mackay.
Weather Situation: An upper low is moving into a very moist
unstable air mass resulting in severe thunderstorms about parts of
the central coast of Queensland.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large
hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in
the warning area over the next several hours.
Locations which may be affected include Mackay, St Lawrence and
Sarina.
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Central
Highlands and Coalfields and Capricornia districts and the warning
for these districts is CANCELLED.
Large hail was reported near Marlborough, west of Rockhampton this
afternoon.
A 101km/h wind gust was recorded at Rockhampton this
afternoon.
72mm at Ma Ma Creek Alert in 1hr to 7am.
45mm recorded at Gatton in 30min to 6:30am.
43mm recorded at Little Egypt Alert in 30min to 6:30am.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded,
forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
