Very Dangerous Storms detected north of Gympie.
Weather Situation: A trough and associated dry line is combining
with an upper low to aid thunderstorm development over southeast
Queensland.
Very dangerous thunderstorms are likely to produce destructive
winds and large, possibly giant hailstones and heavy rainfall over
the next several hours in parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett
district. Locations which may be affected include Maryborough and
Tiaro.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and
heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next
several hours in parts of the Capricornia and Wide Bay and Burnett
districts. Locations which may be affected include Bundaberg,
Gladstone, Yeppoon, Monto, Calliope and Gin Gin.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large
hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over
the next several hours in the Southeast Coast and parts of the Wide
Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.
Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Brisbane,
Maroochydore, Gympie, Ipswich, Coolangatta, Caboolture, Cleveland,
Gatton and Jimboomba.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded,
forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
