Issued at 12:02 pm EST on Monday 24 January 2022 Flood Watch
Number: 1
WIDESPREAD MINOR TO MODERATE FLOODING IS POSSIBLE ACROSS THE FLOOD
WATCH AREA
Deep tropical moisture is being drawn into Central and Western
Queensland with a lingering trough over Western Queensland. These
conditions are forecast to bring heavy rainfall to the watch area
over the next several days.
Catchments across the watch area are saturated from recent
rainfall over the last week. Some catchments across the flood watch
area already have elevated river levels.
Heavy rainfall is expected from Monday morning particularly over
South Western Queensland and the central Gulf Country. The heaviest
rainfall will be associated with thunderstorms.
River level rises in South Western Queensland are likely across
the week, with rainfall likely to impact catchments with existing
warnings. This may bring further minor to moderate flooding, and
isolated major flooding is possible.
Elsewhere in the watch area, widespread minor to moderate flooding
is possible particularly in catchments where river and creek levels
are already elevated.
Flood Warnings are current for the Paroo, Bulloo, Georgina,
Thomson, Lower Barcoo and Warrego Rivers.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
Leichhardt River
Upper Flinders River
Lower Flinders River
Cloncurry River
Norman River
Paroo River (QLD)
Bulloo River (QLD)
Barcoo River
Thomson River
Cooper Creek
Diamantina River
Georgina River and Eyre Creek
Simpson Desert
