Issued at 1:49 pm EST on Wednesday 2 February 2022 Flood Watch
Number: 1
MINOR TO MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE ACROSS THE FLOOD WATCH
AREA
A trough over far western Queensland will push east over the
coming days, drawing tropical moisture across most of the state
with showers, rain and potentially severe thunderstorm activity
becoming more widespread from Thursday.
Rainfall will move eastwards across the interior, likely moving
off the southeast coast during Thursday afternoon. Intense rainfall
rates are possible for some areas particularly in association with
thunderstorms which may cause localised flooding. Severe
Thunderstorm Warnings may be issued for parts of the Flood Watch
area.
Parts of the region are wet following recent rainfall, with
showers and thunderstorms over the next few days expected to
saturate catchments, which may lead to river level rises.
River level rises are expected, with minor to moderate flooding
possible across the Flood Watch area from Thursday afternoon.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
Burrum and Cherwell Rivers
Mary River
Logan and Albert Rivers
Condamine Rivers
Macintyre River
Weir River
Moonie River
Balonne River
Wallam and Mungallala Creeks
