SIGNIFICANT LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS MOVING EAST OF ALICE
SPRINGS
Weather Situation: Fast moving thunderstorms are extending over
the southern districts ahead of a vigorous trough. A line of active
thunderstorms observed on radar is moving east of Alice Springs and
extends to Yuendumu. Small hail is possible.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the
warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be
affected include Alice Springs, Yuendumu, Arltunga, Ti Tree,
Kulgera and Finke.
A wind gust of 92 km/h was observed at Alice Springs at 3:30 pm
CST.
A wind gust of 96 km/h was observed at Alice Springs at 5:30 pm
CST.
The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people
should:
* secure loose outside objects
* ensure pets and animals are safe
* avoid remaining in the open when storms threaten
* pull over if it is raining heavily and you cannot see, park with
your hazard lights on until the rain clears
* avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current
* for emergency help in floods, storms and cyclones, contact the
