FLOODING IS LIKELY IN MANY PARTS OF SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL NORTHERN
TERRITORY
A monsoon trough lies across the Barkly and northern Tanami
Districts, with a deepening monsoon low located over the northwest
Tanami District. The monsoon low will move westwards into northern
WA today. Thee monsoon trough will drift south to be over the
southern Tanami on Tuesday and Wednesday, before moving north again
mid-week.
Heavy falls are likely over southern areas until mid-week, but are
expected to ease over the Barkly District from Monday.
The flood watch area catchments are wetting up due to recent
rainfall.
In the 24 hours to 9:00 am Sunday, rainfall totals of 20 - 50 mm
have been recorded across the flood watch area.
Areas of heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue
over parts of the Flood Watch area, gradually moving
westward.
Rainfall totals of 20-40 mm with isolated totals up to 100 mm is
forecast for the remainder of Sunday over the Barkly, Tanami and
Central Desert, while isolated totals of 60 mm are possible across
southern NT. From Monday rainfall of 20-40 mm with isolated totals
of 100 mm or more is possible across southern NT.
Significant flooding of low lying areas and river rises are
expected. Many roads, and possibly primary and secondary highways,
may be affected. Some communities and homesteads may become
isolated. Check road conditions before travelling.

Tanami Desert
Barkly
Central Desert
Western Desert
MacDonnell Ranges
Finke River and Stephenson Creek
East Kimberley Rivers
Sturt Creek District
