Issued at 12:24 pm EDT on Wednesday 8 December 2021 Flood Watch
Number: 4
RENEWED FLOODING POSSIBLE FOR THE NORTH WEST AND CENTRAL WEST
CATCHMENTS FROM LATE WEDNESDAY
FLOODING POSSIBLE IN THE SOUTH COAST FROM THURSDAY
FLOOD WARNINGS CURRENT FOR NSW INLAND RIVERS
Flood warnings are current for New South Wales North and Central
West Inland catchments from the Namoi to the Murrumbidgee
Rivers.
Renewed river level rises and flooding is possible from late
Wednesday across the Upper Macintyre, Gwydir, Castlereagh, Peel,
Macquarie and Belubula Rivers from rainfall associated with a
deepening trough extending across inland New South Wales.
During Thursday a low pressure system will likely form along the
southern and central coast. This has the potential to cause heavy
rainfall and riverine flooding along the NSW South Coast, Snowy and
Upper Murray and Mitta Mitta Rivers from Thursday.
Renewed river rises are also possible in the Lachlan, Namoi,
Macquarie and Bogan Rivers where flood warnings are current. The
situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated
to reflect any renewed rises as the situation develops.
Catchments are wet following persistent and recurring rainfall in
recent weeks.
A Flood Watch is current for widespread areas of Southern
Queensland.
A Flood Watch is current in Victoria for the Gippsland, parts of
the North East Victoria and the Werribee River Catchment.
The weather system is expected to cause flooding for the
catchments listed from Wednesday. Flood classes (minor, moderate,
major) are only defined for catchments where the Bureau provides a
flood warning service.
Additional catchments likely to be affected include:
Moruya and Deua Rivers minor flooding
Tuross River
Bega River minor flooding
Towamba River
Upper Macintyre River minor to moderate flooding
Gwydir River minor to moderate flooding
Peel River minor flooding
Castlereagh River minor flooding
Macquarie River to Bathurst minor flooding
